What a Woman Wants
Tue, February 9, 2010 at 9:41AM Recently I was asked what a woman wants to see on a man on the course. And although I can't speak for all women, I know what I want to see a guy wearing on the course.
First...a nice collared shirt. The mock turtle necks are OK, but not everyone can pull them off. I really like the "wiki" fabrics being used, and if you can get away with it, shirts with a more athletic cut are great. Nike and Adidas have tons of great shirts for men.
Next, a nice pair of slacks or if it's hot, shorts. But no cargo, no jeans and PLEASE no jean shorts. I wouldn't say it if I haven't seen it. But it's really that simple.
I believe the way you dress on the golf course is how you feel about your game. So the better you look, chances are the more confident you are. (Which most women find sexy.) It's okay to have your own sense of style while playing, and in the event you out dress your game, no problem, we are probably not watching your swing anyway.
Today's PGA Tour Pros have a little bit of everything when it comes to style. The younger guys are wearing flashy belt buckles, longer hair and military caps. Guys like Vijay and Stewart Cink keep it old school with a golf shirt and slacks..I'm fine with it as along as it looks nice. (Sloppy is not sexy!)
But if you want my honest opinion, Ben Hogan and Arnold Palmer each had a great sense of style and made golf look good.

Shark! (Where?)
Wed, February 3, 2010 at 9:00PM As someone who still has not been able to get anywhere close to a since digit index, I have started my quest over, learn the golf swing for real, seriously.
First order of business...stop using MY RIGHT HAND! I have been told several times to stop and still I don't. So this morning I was trying to think of ways to cure myself. And sadly the only thing I could think up was to take up surfing in hopes a shark would bite it off...morbid I know, but I'm getting desperate.
Another tool, get a tire, yes a real tire and hit it over and over using only your left arm. It apparently helps muscle memory, and helps you keep your hands infront of the club face. But I don't have a spare spare tire laying around, so I actually made a "punching" bag out of old jeans and a pair of long johns. (They aren't really needed in Arizona, ever). After about 3 minutes of hitting this thing using my left arm, my forearm was burning so bad I thought it might fall off. I must have been doing it right.
(I need one of these please.)
S(he) Works Hard for the Money
Thu, December 10, 2009 at 7:20PM If you were to ask me what my favorite job of all time is or was, I would have to say working at Troon North serving drinks. Sunshine, green grass and fun coworkers...but as a former beverage cart attendant, I have to tell you the good is money but it is hard work.
The girls (or guys) who do this job usually work long hours, have to deal with weather conditions (depending on the course) and get rejected while still keeping a smile on their face. So next time you see your beverage cart person (girl or guy) be nice to them.

Other Golf When Par Feels Good
Sat, December 5, 2009 at 10:24AM While golfing over the Thanksgiving weekend I realized after a few holes that par feels good. And I'm not talking about when I leave the course shooting par...just getting par on "A" hole can be pretty fantastic when you are having a bad day...and on a par three with water. I'll take it as a small victory.
Speaking of Par 3. For those who haven't seen this, South Africa has the most extreme Par 3 ever. See what Into the Grain had to say about it.

Other Golf For the Winos
Mon, November 30, 2009 at 7:43PM I recently ran across a website for golf and wine lovers called 19th Hole Wines.
Professional golfer, Kris Moe started his golf wines in 2008 and they are growing fast. With bottles retailing between $12.99 to $23.99, they are affordable for everyone. Most of their wines are made in the Sonoma Valley while others are from regions like Napa or the California Central Valley.
"This wine celebrates the 19th hole spirit along with the places and the participants who love the game of golf." - The 19th Hole Wine website
Perfect for the holidays, order online wine from their website, www.19thholewine.com. Or follow their blog at 19thholewine.blogspot.com.

Other Golf I Glove It
Tue, November 24, 2009 at 7:41PM Can I just say how much I love Google? It reminds me of the White Elephant game you play at Christmas...you seriously never know what you are going to end up with. With that said, I landed Glove It.
Glove it is an accessory site which creates everything from head covers, to designer golf gloves, to pretty much you name it, they will match it. But my favorite might just be this Nicole Miller glove...sweeeet.

And for the matchy-match girl in you...

Mon, November 23, 2009 at 7:02PM For the love of the internet, IT IS possible to find totally cute and feminine golf clothes. Susan Hess, founder of Golftini is an avid golfer and felt there was a void in the golf apparel market. Lucky for us, she took action to fill it!
And just because winter is here doesn't mean we want to dress for sub zero temperatures. Options are what women want, so I give you the sweater vest by Golftini, a great alternative for layering this winter.
Check out more of their line at GolftiniWear.com and use the code blog25 for a 25% discount on your order, valid until 12/1/2009! (THANK YOU LADIES AT GOLFTINI, just in time for x-mas!)

Putter Guy
Tue, November 17, 2009 at 7:32PM Want a custom putter like the tour players have? Then Scotty Cameron is your man. Scotty Cameron started making putters for Ray Cook Golf Company in 1986. Then in 1993, two years after starting his own company, one of his putters won the Masters -- making him a wanted man.
Tiger Woods, Geoff Ogilvy, George Lopez and Kobe Bryant, they all carry one of his creations in their bags. To get your own personalize putter, start the process by going to his website www.scottycameron.com. Here is one of my favorites...

Products Why 18?
Sun, November 15, 2009 at 2:23PM I think it's time to take a quick lesson in golf history. Depending on how far you back, and how technical you want to get, most would agree modern golf originated in Scotland.
A fun fact to learn about golf, is that courses weren't always 18 holes. Courses had any number of holes depending on what their topography could accommodate. The standard of 18 holes didn't show up until until St. Andrew's decided to shorten their course from 22 to 18 holes, and other courses followed.
In 1858, new rules were issued by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club at St Andrews for its members. One of these rules was "one round of the links or 18 holes is reckoned a match...".
And the rest is...yep you got it.

Other Golf It's All in the Hips
Sat, November 14, 2009 at 8:20PM I had my first lesson in over four months at Torrey Pines on Saturday...well it was suppose to be a "clinic" but apparently the golf season slows down in San Diego in the winter and I was the only one who signed up. Slows down?? I'm confused...it was 68 on Saturday.
It turns out my private lesson was needed. I have no idea how to use my hips, I've completely forgotten. I'm all arms. This has always been a problem for me since the beginning of my golf adventure. I can't seem to get them to lead on my down swing...it's very frustrating. Every lesson I have ever had, the instructor tells me my swing looks great...except...argh...is this why I'm not on tour?
Anyway, Torrey Pines was a great experience, Steven my instructor was very nice and knowledgeable. But I have never been to a course so busy! There were people everywhere...even during this said "slow" season. I suppose a golf course on the Pacific Ocean, how could you go wrong? I was excited by the whole day, I plan on going back. If it's good enough for Phil and Tiger, it's good enough for me.

Places Bling Bling
Sat, November 14, 2009 at 7:06AM As a woman I'm a sucker for anything that sparkles and if I can make this apply to my ball marker, I will.
CrystalBallMarkers.com has the best selection of bling! They have Breast Cancer Awareness ribbons, ducks and cute little lady bugs. (Guys, these would make great little stocking stuffers since they retail for under $30.)

Products Sharpie is the New Black
Tue, November 10, 2009 at 6:52AM Except mine is orange and it might be my second favorite thing in my bag. (After my putter of course.) But seriously, Sharpie makes a pen for any occasion, have you seen their pen line lately? I prefer the Sharpie Mini - it seems to work the best with my ball alignment tool.
In the past I use to not draw a line on my ball. I thought, "I'm not a good golfer, why does it matter?". If anything, I was the one person who needed to be drawing a line on my ball. My putting was and still can be terrible. But when I was forced to take the time to line up my ball with my target, my putting became more accurate.
Players of any skill level would benefit from this $10 training aid. You would think everyone does it, but they don't. Unless you have Tiger vision, you should be.

Products Keep Warm This Winter
Sun, November 8, 2009 at 2:54PM Arm warmers aren't just for runners anymore. If you are anything like me, I have to layer and layer some more in order to keep from getting cold. But having too many layers can restrict your swing. Arm warmers are a good alternative to putting on another jacket.
Nike sells them them in your basic black and white. If you like variety, look to Iconic Sports for a selection of feminine colors.

Products Keri This...
Sun, November 8, 2009 at 1:43PM Keri Golf has cute totes for carrying everything that shouldn't go in your golf bag, but still needs to go with you to the course. This bucket tote retails for $115.
Why Stretch?
Fri, November 6, 2009 at 9:49AM Why should you do golf stretches?
To prevent injury and to add flexibility to your swing, which can add more distance. If you were to ask any golf pro they would tell you they stretch.
But what stretches should you be doing? After a quick Google search I found G2 Fitness, a California based company whose founder is a golf enthusiast. Their mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle leading them to creating a mat with the stretch sequence printed right on it. This takes all the guess work out of your stretch routine. (G2 Fitness also makes Yoga, Pilates and Maternity mats.) The Golf Mat retails for $49.95.

Or if you are on a budget, check out the Mayo Clinic's slide show on golf stretching.
What to Wear
Wed, November 4, 2009 at 4:08PM I don't know about you, but I find it difficult to find golf clothes I like. They are either too trendy and I'm afraid people won't take me serious as a golfer. Or I feel frumpy. There has to be a happy medium...comfort meets fashion?
After spending time a lot of time online, I actually found some things I like...
Ralph Lauren has a nice line, it's classic and simple. The down side, the price points are a little on the high side. I'm not sure I could afford to fill my closet with it, but I would definitely pick up a few pieces to build my golf wardrobe around.

About a year ago I found Athleta, they create athletic wear for everything from golf, to ski, to yoga. The clothes are comfortable and have great style. And many of their pieces can be used for more than one sport, this is a nice concept since most of us are on a budget.

And I've LOVE what Adidas is up to. They always seem to have colorful skorts and shirts at reasonable prices. (And their shoes are ridiculously comfortable.)

I am slightly obsessed with these shoes...

Love-Hate Relationship
Sun, November 1, 2009 at 11:45PM I have a real love-hate relationship with my putter. I received it as a gift from a friend who picked it up for me in Japan. Everything about it makes me happy. How it feels, looks, moves. It's by far my most favorite club in the bag.
What doesn't make me happy is where my ball ends up after I hit it. Ask anyone who has played with me, I suck at putting. If I'm two putting, it's a good day. So I can't really explain why I named this site She Putts, except I do putt, just not as well as I would like.
But how could I possibly get upset with a club as sweet as this? The Rossa Monza Spider is available in the States, I'm just not positive you can get it in pink. (yes I do like pink...this year. last year it was blue. it's a faze. i think.)
